Looking Back

Earlier this year I posted a few of my goals.(See Looking Forward) I actually thought doing so was a difficult thing to do since there were potentially so many people who could at any given time inquire about my progress. Well, the real issue about posting my goals was that I would either have to be honest about my results at the end of the year or simply try to avoid the subject. The last option seems like a really punk thing to do, so here are the results.

Two out of three ain’t bad!

My first goal on the list was to improve my level of physical fitness.

I am happy to say that I have made significant progress. While I lost about 10 pounds, to me the real accomplishment is regaining a significant amount of strength and endurance. This year I will try to make this a more quantitative goal. For example, losing xx pounds or inches.

I am thinking about running a 5k in the spring. The mileage isn’t really much for me if I can get started again. I ran regularly some years ago. I just need a partner to run with on a consistent basis. I can do some training on my treadmill, but that alone will not get me ready to run with a partner and outdoors.

My second goal involved independent travel. Depending on how you view independent travel, I don’t think I had or created enough opportunities. The only travel I did independently was to the YMCA on the days I was swimming. I was fortunate to have a driver, no other accessible public transportation is available. When I said independent travel, I was really referring to something more significant. I will have to continue with this in 2008.

Again, quantitative will work best. Maybe something like, I will take a trip to Jamaica alone. (Just Kidding Honey!)

My final goal was to make progress in the work with MCCB. I think we have progressed quite nicely this year. I was very fortunate to serve as the president for the last two years.  I am very proud that other chapters in the state organization the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind are recognizing our group for our enthusiasm, energy, progress and creativity.

There so much more we are working on as well as many other accomplishments that have not been mentioned.

Overall I would have to say 2007 was a pretty good year, but I think 2008 will be better.

Stay tuned for my 2008 goals in January.

And of course, feel free to share your goals as well!
