I’m Obama!
On Wednesday morning, the mood in the Reid house was probably similar to many households across the country. Positive, proud and overflowing with potential.
Every morning when the girls get up for school, I try to send them out ready for the world. I use music that sends either a positive message or has a feel good vibe. For this historic day I had to go with “Feelin’ Good” by Nina Simone. It begins…
Birds flyin’ high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by you know how I feel
Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life for me
yeah, its a new dawn its a new day its a new life for me ooooooooh
AND I’M FEELING GOOD
There’s a lot of talk about the impact that our new president will have on young children of African descent. They can now really believe when their parents say things like you can be anything you want in this world.
My 4 year old daughter, as she prepared to leave for Kindergarten asked me if I knew who she was. Not really understanding what she meant, I called out her name. With such pride and confidence she yells out, “I’m Obama!”
Yes, she is.
And to all our children, you are too!

So I guess that means I’m Obama too? I am so happy that we have elected our first ever minority President, and ya know what? He’s from my state. I think he and Joe Biden–along with Michelle as First Lady and Jill as Second Lady–will do a great job and eventually this great country of ours will land on its feet once again. I don’t know if you’ve checked out http://www.change.gov yet, but it’s a good website which discusses the transition plan from Bush over to Obama. However, they have their work cut out for them. A friend of mine worked for Barack’s campaign so I’ve no doubt he’s a happy camper these days. The mood throughout my building, as well as the entire nonprofit at which I work, has been extremely positive too. Even those darned Republicans here have been very uplifting and congratulatory, and yes we do have a few of them but not many. A neighbor of mine once commented to me that she found it hard to believe that someone with special needs as well as their family members would vote Republican. I can honestly say I agree wholeheartedly with her. Peace my friends and fellow bloggers!
